Matera Sassi
Gobelin woven tapestry, cotton warp, wool weft
35 x 41“

While walking in the historical Cliffside town of Matera, Italy, I noticed this man resurfacing a wall. He had set up lights to illuminate his work site. When I later developed the picture, I loved the exaggerated blues and yellows of the façade combined with the movements of the man as he plastered the wall. Some people have encouraged me to weave just scenes but I always seem to need a person in my tapestries to bring them to life.
