Breaking The Mold
Gobelin woven tapestry

Malika represents the changing options for young Moroccan women. The twenty-something year old women in my Peace Corps host family could not read or write. They loved watching soap operas on TV but this ten year old was diligently learning two languages and would know four languages if she stayed in school. She was full of spunk and curiosity. I could see the wheels turning in her head as she observed my every move, the strange American who came to town one day to give health lessons.
